The second in command conducted the prayers at his Karen residence on Tuesday, September 7, when he held a consultative meeting with grassroots leaders and opinion shapers from Gatanga, Murang’a county.
During the prayer session, Ruto was flanked by Murang’a senator Irungu Kangata and lawyer Edward Muriu.
”We present the president before you and all those of us serving under him and the entire leadership of this country so that God can help us achieve and know your love for our beloved country,” Ruto said.
The DP also prayed to God to intervene and help resolve the country’s challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
”We also pray over the challenges we are facing as a country such as the COVID-19 pandemic that you may give us skills and knowledge on how best we can tame it to open our economy and continue worshipping you in churches,” Ruto added.
He also prayed for unity among Kenyans appealing to God to help end tribalism and poverty in the country.
”We also pray that you may help us achieve all our goals and provide food for those who lack it,” said Ruto, who also prayed for all political aspirants eyeing for various seats in the 2022 General Election that they achieve their dreams.
Uhuru and Ruto fell out moments after the March 9, 2018, handshake between the head of state and his once-erstwhile rival Raila Odinga.
The move has been attributed to the lethal injection that killed the bromance between Uhuru and Ruto displayed ahead of the 2017 polls.
In what signalled the end of the Jubilee Party, secretary-general Raphael Tuju on Monday, September 6, slammed the deputy party leader and deputy president, accusing him of, among other things frustrating Uhuru.
Tuju, in a hard-hitting statement, questioned the source of the DP’ wealth, demanding that he discloses how much he has paid the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) from his KSh 1.5 million a day egg sale.
In the sarcastic statement, Tuju urged the DP to do the honourable thing and leave the party to focus on his newly formed United Democratic Movement (UDA) party.
This comes barely two weeks after Uhuru dared his deputy of nine years to resign from the Jubilee government as he is seemingly dissatisfied with it.
Uhuru dropped the bombshell on Deputy President William Ruto, further widening the rift between the two top leaders who started reading from different political scripts after the 2017 elections.
In an interview with media editors on Monday, August 23, at State House Nairobi, a seemingly vexed Uhuru said if Ruto is as unhappy as he seems with his government, he should resign and take his agenda to the people. AdChoices
