WHO, UNICEF commend vaccination drive

Sri Lanka’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic was globally lauded and the government has received international recognition for its well-coordinated vaccination programme, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

The Minister said World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF representatives had commended the vaccination process in Sri Lanka and in addition to that the Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka, the Cuban Ambassador in Sri Lanka, US Ambassador in Sri Lanka and the Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka also commended the vaccination programme.
The Minister made this observation participating in an event of receiving 100,000 COVID vaccines under the COVAX facility.
The Minister said that a number of complaints have been received from various parts of the country with regard to malpractices in the vaccination drive and he had instructed the Director-General of Health Services to request an inquiry from the IGP into the recent incident in Hikkaduwa. AdChoices
